After reading I started flipping every Salzburg market cup before paying and asking “Wo wurde das gebrannt?”, then scanning the bottom for Made in Austria or a potter’s mark. I set a hard cap per hand-painted piece with a souvenir budget calculator for Austrian market finds instead of fuzzy euro math. Airport Mozartkugeln no longer tempt me.

Flip the cup, ask “Wo wurde das gebrannt?” Now I do that before paying at any Salzburg stall, then check for Made in Austria or a potter’s mark. I also started using a souvenir budget calculator to cap each hand-painted piece before handing over cash; no more fuzzy euro math.

A Salzburg market cup still needs a bottom check: turn it over, look for “Made in Austria” or a potter’s mark, then ask “Wo wurde das gebrannt?” Imported blanks often have no maker’s stamp. If the stall quotes euros and you’re converting for a souvenir wishlist, a calculator for souvenir budget math keeps the budget real before you hand over cash.

A Salzburg market cup sounds easier to trust than airport Mozartkugeln, but how do you actually verify the stall's hand-painted pieces are made in Austria and not imported? I’m building a souvenir wishlist too, and a practical Austrian souvenir shopping guide would help sort market finds from mass-produced trinkets. Do you ask vendors directly, or look for a specific maker’s mark?

I like that the idea is asking an Austrian for souvenir advice instead of just grabbing Mozartkugeln at the airport. Last summer I ended up with a tiny hand-painted ceramic cup from a market in Salzburg, and it still makes me smile more than any mass-produced trinket. I’m already sketching out a souvenir wishlist for my next trip so I don’t forget what actually felt local.
